The Pacific Islands Trade and Investment Commission aims to contribute to the sustainable economic advancement of the Pacific Island Forum countries by supporting private sector development in the region.

 

PITIC (Australia) is one of four overseas agencies of the Suva-based Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.

 

The Forum’s other overseas offices are located in Japan, New Zealand, and the People’s Republic of China. The countries that PITIC represents Include:

Kina Asset Management to Launch new IPO in PNG

An exciting new investment offering is soon to be launched in PNG. Kina Asset Management Limited.

 

The Initial Public Offering (IPO) will provide investors within PNG with the opportunity to invest in the first POMSoX diversified “listed investment company” managed by one of PNG’s leading investment managers.

 

Kina Asset Management is part of the Kina Group in PNG established in 1985, and has funds under management in excess of PGK 2.3 billion for both institutional and individual investors.

South Pacific GDP showing remarkable potential

The Pacific Economic Survey 2008 has forcast regional GDP growth of 4.5 percent for 2008.  This is more than double that of earlier in the decade. According to the survey this also indicates that faster growth is possible in the pacific. "While not reaching the growth levels of 9 percent in East Asia and 8 percent in South Asia, the gap between the Pacific and sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean regions is narrowing."

PNG – Australia Partnership Seminar in Sydney

The Crawford School, Australian National University, and local hosts, the Lowy Institute for International Policy, are presenting an upcoming seminar on PNG-Australia partnership.

 

Presentations will focus on the PNG-Australia partnership, PNG economy, labour mobility, seasonal migration, PNG and climate change.

 

This seminar is part of a series on Papua New Guinea and is supported by the Australian government's aid agency, AusAID, and associated with the publication of the Pacific Economic Bulletin.

 

There is no cost for attending this event, and a light lunch will be provided.

PICs doing well in Small Business

In a recent report by one of the world's premier business regulations measuring programmes "Doing Business" (www.doingbusiness.org),  we can see that  small island states such as those in the South Pacific are doing  relatively well in three significant areas: dealing with licenses, employing workers and paying taxes. Mai Polynesia DancersSydney based dance troupe “Mai Polynesia” has taken to the world stage with resounding success.

This year the 9th annual Global Development Conference was hosted by the Oceania Development Network, a regional network of the GDN.  Capping the Conference with a spectacular display of cultural entertainment Mai Polynesia brought a fresh explosion of colour, movement and music into a sea of black and grey suits.

The troupe’s use of traditional Cook Island instruments, costume and dance choreography melded seamlessly with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems to deliver an impressive and highly professional performance.

Air Niugini Flies direct Sydney - Port Moresby

Air Niugini has recognised the thriving market for direct flights between Sydney and Port Moresby.  Passengers no longer need to transfer at Brisbane International Airport, saving an hour of travel time.

 

Air Niugini flights depart from Sydney and arrive Port Moresby on Mondays and Saturdays;  and depart Port Moresby and arrive in Sydney on Fridays and Sundays.

Chris Brimble, Information Office, PITIC SydneyChris, who takes over from Mark Tavener, has a degree in Communications from the University of Technology, Sydney and brings with him many years of experience in tailoring information to specific target audiences through his work in public libraries.


Chris has long hoped to put his knowledge and skills to use in creating fresh opportunities for people of developing nations and says, “the Pacific Islands Trade and Investment Commission, along with the Forum Secretariat, has made important inroads into trade, tourism and investment development in the region and I’m immensely proud to be part of this great organization.
