TOKYO (Pacnews) ----- Papua New Guinea (PNG) Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has invited interested Japanese companies to consider taking out partnership interests in the second PNG liquefied natural gas (LNG) project led by InterOil Corp.

Sir Michael was in Tokyo yesterday where he officiated at the trade and investment seminar in Tokyo, reports The National In his remark, the Prime Minister acknowledged the partnership of Japanese company Nippon Oil in the major LNG project led by ExxonMobil.

The 4th Pacific Islands Trade Exhibition will take place at the JETRO Exhibition Hall in Tokyo, Japan from 21-26 May 2009.  

Announcing the Exhibition, Director of the Pacific Islands Centre in Tokyo, Mr Keiichi Hasegawa says: “The Festival will feature Pacific Island products including pepper, coconut oil and soaps, black pearls, noni juice, handicraft, fresh papaya, dried and processed food (banana and taro chips, spiced pineapple, etc), coffee, vanilla beans, seaweed and stamps.”

NUKU’ALOFA ---- Five licences were issued last week to sea cucumber operators to harvest and export sea cucumber from Tonga for the 2009 season, which runs from April 1 until the end of September.

The Fisheries Deputy Director 'Ulunga Fa'anunu said the five licence holders were chosen out of 13 operators who had been short listed from 54 applications.
